For some reason The Lab felt it was important to feature how attractive the infrastructure of the new Adult Content Continent (AKA, Pornsylvania) in yesterday's announcement (Web) of further developments of the bifurcation of the World. Admittedly, it is very attractive and doesn't take a lot of imagination to see the architectural innuendo, but the information was surprisingly informative and vague at the same time. Once again we are directed to the forums for discussions but an actual time frame was given:
When Viewer 1.23 is final and ready to become the main Viewer (again, estimated to be by the end of June), the full implementation process will begin - all regions will need to be maturity-rated, search will be filtered for everyone, Adult content on the mainland will need to move to the new continent, and access to Adult regions and search results will be limited to Residents with verified accounts.
Having once had an adult content business -- I operated an adult motel in Nangrim and sold porn next to someone else's strip club and a Brazilian casino -- my interest in this issue is a bit more than passing. The idea of having to move from land that I owned and on which I paid tier to a completely new location where competition is a quick walk away is disconcerting. If I have time I'll pop by the forum (Web) and try to wade through the chaff but if anyone knows of a good summary, please post a comment. If The Lab has taken as much care with this move as they seem to have with the pictured infrastructure then this could be an example of come beautiful logistics and a far cry from the Age Verification process (Web) to date.

It's true that competition is now in walking distance, but also everybody is in the themed area. That should bring targeted traffic. Which one will have stronger impact on the economy is yet to be seen. My guess that freebie resellers with low-quality stuff will be damaged first. But quality will actually profit.
So you see that the targeted traffic could lead to a Darwinian culling of non-freebies, too? But I think it could also lead to inflation, say L$1000 for a lap dance, not L$450 for a good one as competition falls off. I'm also concerned about the sudden mainland real estate glut as whole businesses are forced to abandon their land in some sort of swap.
So, does this mean they're finally going to implement the age verification that about 0.01% of SL's population has bothered to register with?
If they plan to filter search and access etc. to over 18's only and aren't using any other verification of legal age other than the birthday you entered when you created the account, it makes a mockery of the whole thing...
When I age verified shortly after the process was introduced, I had to enter valid ID information from a driver's license, passport, or other similar legal document. I imagine there will be a deluge of registrations when folks can't access Pornsylvania or other restricted areas. Might wanna try it now and avoid any delays. I have an unverified alt, though, so I can mess with the new system when it is introduced.
Darwinian culling will affect low-quality. Sure, there might be shaking of the prices, but I don't expect any significant change. Except on the black market if that one appear.
Land prices of the mainland might go crazy and that will become a huge problem if Lindens don't do the moving right.
But, payment info does count as verification.
Hey the porn continent is called the AO continent! My initials finally mean something besides a non duck walking device at last!
To test your access go to the oatmeal sims on aditi grid (help test the code) where some sims are marked adult and set to adult. Or on agnit grid (main grid) try visiting http://slurl.com/secondlife/Arapaima/134/125/4001 which is the gateway to the AO continent.
Our Uccie mentioned on Hamlet Au's New World Notes..woot!
