Received Items Folder is Live!

Zip over to the Second Life Marketplace to get the free Linden bear pictured above and test out the new Received Items folder in your Inventory. Yes, they warned us it was coming. And until all the merchants get on board, some boxes will still show up in the Objects folder. Here are my screen grabs while using the Exodus viewer, but testing with the Official Viewer yielded the same results:

From the Inventory view, if you click the large Received Items "button" (shown in the last picture below), you'll see the area expand as shown. Things cannot be dragged from other folders into Received Items. Instead of an object showing up, a folder representing my purchase appeared, saving me the trouble of unpacking a box. Note that things purchased in-world will not appear here. Also, if you like to have a boxed copy of purchases for back-up storage, you will now have to box them  yourselves, unless a merchant chooses to send a boxed purchase in a folder.

Note the "New" indicator and that a Received Items folder is not visible in the main Inventory tree structure.  Also, you cannot drag things from one folder to another within the Received Items pane but you can drag things from Received Items to other folders. Until now, I would put all the incoming goodies in my Objects: Sort folder if I didn't open and sort them right away. This could save me a step or two, but to reiterate: It only works with Marketplace purchases.

A Received Items folder only shows when the Recent tab is selected.

Donating to Japan Disaster Relief

If you are like me, you've been crying off and on since the news about the Japan earthquake and tsunami disaster was announced. I stayed up watching the news in awe and grief until I couldn't take it any more. Then I laid down and had nightmares. There is not much I can do other than pray, but if buying this Relief Teddy Bear from the SL Marketplace makes even a wee bit of difference ...

There are going to be many opportunities in Second Life and outside our world for you to help. Please do. I'm leaving this bear for the ladies to visit at Memorial Park on the Isle of Lesbos.

BIG Teddycello

Many Linden Lab© employees with a presence in the Second Life™ (SL) world give away teddy bears that they have made. I have a few and sometime last year I made a teddy to give away in much the same fashion. Since that first bear I've made several to give away at the Isle of Lesbos or for other reasons, but I've never been quite happy with that first bear.

Sure, it had a nice hug animation, but it was really a rather basic effort that more or less duplicated a Linden bear design and not too fancy. So yesterday I got working on a new one that would better reflect me and here it is. Well, this is a giant version over 20m tall. The one I'll give away is about one meter tall. But both reflect what I love to do in SL: Build. This one is working on a slightly tortured prim with my state of Maine vehicle license plate "name" texture.

At 173 prims I don't see too many folks rezzing it for extended display, but this one is me. She is even wearing what I often wear (dang! I should have changed for this pic!).
